Lymphatic Awareness, a Trager® Perspective
Lymphatic Awareness, a Trager® Perspective is a new Trager Pilot Elective bringing focus on how the Trager Approach and its potent principles decongest the body’s tissues and benefit the lymph system as a whole. This new Trager offering is a culmination of many years of clinical experience working with a wide spectrum of congestion-related symptoms, diagnoses, conditions, and complaints presented by clients.” -Roger Hughes, Trager Instructor (Click on the Instructor's name to view his bio.)
This Trager Elective is comprised of guided Mentastics, demonstrations, and group discussions to enrich Trager skills for meeting and optimizing lymphatic function. With this in mind, we will embark on a journey that will facilitate the natural movement of fluid from within the ECM (extra cellular matrix) into the ‘single-cell wide’ pre-lymphatic vessels (then referred to as ‘lymph’) to the vast and extensive ‘deep and superficial’ lymphatic network, and concluding at the confluence of the lymphatic “terminuses” of the Thoracic and Lymphatic Ducts.
Working mindfully with the nervous system, we can free the contractile forces that anatomically parallel and at times incumber the flow of lymph within the vessels, lymph nodes, and ducts. Discussion related to working with different stages of cancer, side-effects associated with conventional cancer treatments, lipo-suction and cosmetic procedure healing, post-surgery edema, pitting edema, swelling, lymphedema, lipedema, mixed edemas, sinus congestion, digestive stagnation, tissue damage due to injury/trauma, ischemic scarring and issues related to poor circulation. Working with and assessing the skin and the underlying tissue qualities will provide additional information and serve in guiding participant trades in Mentastics and in table-time.
The locations of lymph node proliferation, lymph pathways, and their confluences parallel significantly with the body’s typical tension centers. These include the face, head, neck, axillae, chest, abdomen, and groin to name a few. Compensatory patterns distort the biotensegral local and global web(s) further challenging the flow of lymph. The Trager Approach creates a more even tone throughout the body thereby helping to restore a more whole and balanced biotensegrity. This greatly aids in the movement of all the body’s fluids including lymph!
Prompting proximal movement helps ensure clearing (under the forces of negative pressure) of more distal regions that may be ‘sluggish’. The Trager Approach offers more 'integrating alternatives' to this orderly procession by way of its far-reaching movements characterized by waves, shimmers, vibrations, and reverberations. Trager touch, slack nuance and play, and open presence deepen the felt shift from heavy to a lighter, more resilient tissue fabric. This collective approach influences the lymph system to garner better flow as a result of improved body movement itself.
Roger Hughes was certified as a Dr. Vodder® Therapist from 1998 to 2016. For over 30 years he has provided manual lymph drainage therapy for hundreds of individuals addressing a variety of congestive conditions and their symptoms. This gave Roger a learning view and hands-on sense of the body’s amazing lymphatic network, and to realize its capacity to improve, recalibrate, and maintain optimal flow and function. As he became more adept in the Trager Approach, Roger started to notice and rely on Trager principles to effectively address lymph-related presentations.
